Lahore, Aug 15(ANI): Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Nawaz Sharif has reiterated his pledge to eliminate corruption and extremism from the country after coming to power.
Addressing a public meeting on Pakistan's Independence Day in Hazoori Bagh, he said Pakistan's present rulers posed a serious threat to the future of the country.
"In the presence of the present leadership of the country, it is all but a dream to steer the country towards the safer shores," the Daily Times quoted him, as saying.
Questioning the credibility of the present day 'democracy', Nawaz said this democracy had given Pakistan only humiliation and bad name in the world.
"Today everybody feels pain looking at Pakistan. Each and every citizen will have to think about the future of Pakistan," he said.
He said the PML-N had made lot of sacrifices for democracy and launched protests against former military ruler Pervez Musharraf government, but the present ruling government was following Musharraf's footsteps.
He said Pakistan could become invulnerable if its 180 million citizens would endeavour to do so with utmost sincerity and faith. (ANI)
