Washington, Aug 14 (ANI): Minnesotan Congresswoman Michele Bachmann has narrowly won the Iowa straw poll, affirming her position as a top Republican candidate in the White House race.
Bachmann came out on top with 28 percent, of the nearly 17,000 votes cast, Fox News reports.
"We just sent a message that Obama will be a one-term president," said Bachmann as she cheered her supporters.
"We just crossed a very important hurdle, but it's the first one," she said to former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee.
"This is a wonderful result today and we couldn't be more grateful to the people of Iowa," she added.
Congressman Ron Paul came close behind her with 27 percent votes, followed by former Minnesota governor Tim Pawlenty in third with 13 percent of the votes.
Former Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum netted nine percent votes and businessman Herman Cain received 8 percent of the votes, the report said. (ANI)
