Beijing, Aug 7 (ANI): Chinese citizens have admitted to losing confidence in the country's railway after the July 23 accident, which killed about 40 people.
The accident took place when two bullet trains collided in Zhejiang province on July 23.
A Chinese citizen, Bai Ruoxue, said she has stopped travelling by bullet trains after the accident.
Some passengers said that they used trains only as they had no other option.
"I'd rather not take the train, but I certainly can't quit my job. I was afraid during the ride and dared not close my eyes to sleep," Xinhua quoted Zhang Xiang, a Chinese citizen, as saying.
Some citizens also said that their habits have changed after the train crash.
Yan Xuedong said that he books tickets in the middle of the train, where according to him, his survival chances would be best.
A college student in Zhejiang said that he remains in regular contact with his family throughout his train journey.
Meanwhile, School of Philosophy and Social Development Professor Ma Guanghai confirmed that the accident has seriously undermined people's confidence in railways.
"Bus accidents are frequently reported, and airplane accidents are hard to escape, so as a result, people like to take trains," he said.
An earlier research had shown that trains are the primary mode of transport in China.
Over 80 percent of the 3,000 respondents had described trains as "cheaper, safer and faster" mode of transport. (ANI)
