Karachi, August 4(ANI): Muttahida Qaumi Movement chief Altaf Hussain has said the Pakistan Army and Rangers should be deployed on a full-time basis to stop the ongoing bloodbath in Karachi.
"The Rangers and the Army should come to Karachi and see who is involved in terrorism. They should control the law and order situation here" the Dawn quoted Hussain, as saying.
Blaming the ruling government for law and order breakdown in Karachi, he said he would ask the President Asif Ali Zardari and the Prime Minister Yousuf Ali Gilani and the Sindh Chief Minister to stop "official patronisation of the Lyari gang, land mafia and criminal elements".
Hussain said the MQM was wrongly blamed from time to time for violence in Karachi.
Hussain had earlier asked the Karachi residents to stock up ration for at least a month even at the cost of selling valuables.
Hussain gave a major portion of his speech in English indicating that he sought to address the international audience and MQM senior leaders and general workers.
This impression was strengthened in a wake of British Foreign Minister for South Asia Alistair Burt issuing a statement after a telephonic conversation with Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad.
Burt expressed his concern "at the continuing violence and loss of life that Karachi has faced in recent weeks".
"Our Deputy High Commissioner in Karachi, Francis Campbell, has met representatives of all main political parties in Karachi to encourage them to work towards stability in Karachi and the wider region. I have asked my officials to reiterate these points directly with the leadership of the MQM and to discuss our concerns", he added. (ANI)
