Quetta, August 4(ANI): The government of Afghanistan has handed over 16 Pakistani citizens to country's officials after releasing from private jails in Afghanistan.
The released Pakistanis had been illegally trafficked into Afghanistan and sold as slaves.
A human rights activist and Ansar Burney Welfare Trust Chairman Ansar Burney said the 16 Pakistanis were smuggled from Qambar area of Sindh and later sold to a private party, which kept them in its private jails where the victims worked as slaves, the Dawn reports.
Burney said that he had established contacts with the Afghan authorities with the help of Frontier Corps officials and Afghan government agreed to get all 16 Pakistanis released after negotiations.
Burney said that several Pakistanis who migrated Afghanistan as labourers were forced to work as slaves in miserable conditions in private jails.
He said the Frontier Corps had established contracts with Afghan officials and talks were underway for their release.
He called on media to highlight the issue and expose those involved in human trafficking. (ANI)
