Canberra, Aug 4 (ANI): A devout Hindu in Australia, who pleaded guilty of molesting three young girls, has been set free by a court.
Krishna Sivakumar Chidambaram, guilty of sex attacks, was sentenced in the Victorian County Court to a total of nine months in jail and imposed a two-year community based order.
But because Chidambaram has already spent 283 days on remand he will be freed immediately, News.com.au reports.
Chidambaram's offences came to light after he was allowed to look after a girl and failed to return her to her parents.
The police later found the girl on what was described as Chidambaram's 'filthy' bedding at his home.
Judge Damian Murphy said Chidambaram, 40, breached the trust of the parents of the victims, who trusted him to be alone with their children.
The judge said the offences were 'at the lower end of the scale,' but the rights of children to be safe had to be respected by individuals like Chidambaram.
"They have to keep their hands off other people's children when they have the opportunity to interact with them," judge Murphy said.
"You breached the trust when you committed these three offences," the judge added.
Chidambaram previously pleaded guilty to three counts of indecent assault on child under 16 and one count of possessing child pornography.
According to the report, in a previous hearing Chidambaram 'was so ashamed that he could barely speak' and while in custody he repeated a Hare Krishna chant thousands of times during his daily prayer sessions. (ANI)
