Islamabad, Aug 3 (ANI): Pakistan must not play a double game with China like it does with the United States in so far as the Uighurs insurgency is concerned, a Daily Times editorial has said.
On Monday, China had blamed Muslim extremists trained in Pakistan for launching one of two deadly weekend attacks in a troubled far western region, while overseas activists feared the government could respond by cracking down on ethnic Uighurs, who are widely blamed for the unrest.
Last weekend's attacks had left 19 people killed in China's Xinjiang province. n the past, China had asked Pakistan to be aware of any kind of terror training for those fighting the Xinjiang war. But this time around, it clearly said that members of the East Turkestan Islamic Movement (ETIM) had learnt to make explosives in camps located in Pakistan's tribal regions.
As the Pak-US military and intelligence ties continue to deteriorate, the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) chief, Lieutenant-General Ahmed Shuja Pasha, flew to China to facilitate an open and broad-based strategic dialogue with Beijing and reduce dependence on Washington.
Though Pakistani has responded to China quickly on the issue, the Daily Times editorial hopes that Islamabad's assurances are genuine. (ANI)
