Damascus, July 31 (ANI): Armed groups have reportedly attacked law enforcement members and a police station in Syria's Deir al-Zour area and stolen weapons and ammunition.
According to a Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) report, miscreants barricaded some roads in the city to terrorize residents. Law-enforcement members encountered these groups and exchanged gunfire with them.
Syrian law-enforcement personnel are still hunting for these groups.
Deir al-Zour residents expressed their concern on the law and order situation in the area, Xinhua reports.
The Syria-News website quoted witnesses as saying that Deir al-Zour is witnessing a proliferation of armed men and described the situation as intense.
Security forces are conducting a large-scale house raids and arrests especially those aged from 15 to 40.
"There is a shortage of food and the families there are helping one another by exchanging what they have of food and water," an unnamed journalist was quoted as saying.
Deir al-Zour has been one of the centers of pro-democracy in the past four months.
The unrest in Syria has so far claimed the lives of over 1,400 civilians, but the Syrian government disputed has the toll. (ANI)
