Kabul , Sun, 31 Jul 2011 ANI

Kabul, July 31 (ANI): Eleven people, including ten policemen and a child have been killed in a powerful suicide car bomb explosion in Afghanistan's Helmand province.

The Taliban-led explosion took place in provincial capital Lashkar Gah on Sunday morning, Xinhua reports.

Daud Ahmadi, spokesman for the provincial government said 12 more people including nine police and three civilians were wounded in the attack that took place near the provincial police department in the province 555 km south of capital Kabul.

The blast also damaged several police vehicles and government agency buildings around.

The Taliban-led insurgency has been rampant since the militant group announced to launch the spring offensive from May 1 against Afghan and NATO-led troops stationed in Afghanistan.

Lashkar Gah was one of seven provinces handed over from the NATO-combat troops to the Afghan police and army earlier in July. (ANI)
