London, July 30 (ANI): In a startling discovery, it has emerged that Dame Agatha Christie was "one of Britain's first stand-up surfers".
Peter Robinson, researcher from the Museum of British Surfing, revealed the discovery about the author's pastime was a "complete surprise", as people generally tend to associate Christie with the image of an old writer.
My research shows in the early 1920s very few British people were surfing and the only one we know about earlier than her, standing up, was Prince Edward," the Telegraph quoted him as saying.
"She was such a prolific writer that people tend to associate the image of an older lady writing books like 'Poirot' with the name Agatha Christie," he said.
Christie took up the hobby of surfing during a vacation in South Africa with her husband, Archie in 1922, and was a fervent bodyboarder at that time.
The trip to Hawaii brought about a miraculous change as the author picked up the art of surfing while standing up, which is reportedly the first ever examples of surfing recorded by a Briton. (ANI)
