London, July 30 (ANI): The man who threw a foam pie at News Corporation boss Rupert Murdoch as he gave evidence to MPs over the phone-hacking scandal, has pleaded guilty to assault.
Jonathan May-Bowles, also known as Jonnie Marbles, admitted assault and causing harassment, alarm or distress before magistrates in Westminster, Sky News reports.
May-Bowles spoke only to confirm his name, age and address, and plead guilty to the two charges.
Rav Chodha, prosecuting, said May-Bowles attacked Murdoch and used threatening, abusive or insulting words and behaviour while he addressed the Commons Culture, Media and Sport Committee on July 19.
The City of Westminster Magistrates' Court hearing was adjourned for pre-sentencing reports until August 2, when May-Bowles is to return to court to be sentenced.
His solicitor, Raj Chada, asked District Judge Daphne Wickham for another date as May-Bowles had booked a holiday with his family and young son.
Wickham, however, said a warrant would be issued for his arrest if he did not turn up.
"He is on bail for a serious offence which carries a risk of imprisonment. It's due process. He should have thought about this on the 19th of July when he committed these offences," she said. (ANI)
