End drone war in Pakistan, rethink Qaeda chase: Ex Intel chief

Washington , Fri, 29 Jul 2011 ANI

Washington, July 29 (ANI): The former US intelligence chief, Dennis Blair, has said drone attacks in Pakistan should be called off immediately.

Blair also said Washington should rethink on its strategy of spending billions of dollars to pursue Al-Qaeda.

"Call off the unilateral US drone war in Pakistan and rethink the idea of spending billions of dollars to pursue Al-Qaeda," Blair was quoted, as saying.

Blair said the drone attacks take out some mid-level terrorists who are not strategically effective, The Nation reports. Blair said that this is one of the many reasons why it is a mistake to 'have that campaign dominate our overall relations' with countries like Pakistan, Yemen, and Somalia.

"Because we're alienating the countries concerned, because we're treating countries just as places where we go attack groups that threaten us, we are threatening the prospects of long-term reform," Blair said. (ANI)
