Nevada (US), July 26 (ANI): The Bangladesh Hindu Temple in Hamtramck (Michigan, USA) reportedly had a grand opening on July 24.

A former Union hall, it now contains image of Goddess Durga, etc. Only few blocks away, fire reportedly destroyed their earlier temple in 2006, which was founded in 2002.

Meanwhile, esteemed Hindu statesman Rajan Zed, in a statement in Nevada (USA) on Monday, applauded the efforts of the temple leaders and area Bangladeshi-Hindu community to make this wonderful Hindu temple into a reality.

Zed, who is president of Universal Society of Hinduism, further said that it was important to pass on Hindu spirituality, concepts and traditions to coming generations amidst so many distractions in the consumerist society and hoped that this temple complex would focus in this direction.

He stressed that instead of running after materialism; we should focus on inner search and realization of Self and work towards achieving moksh (liberation), which was the goal of Hinduism.

According to reports, the Sunday opening included special prayers, community lunch, chanting, etc. Hari Dutta is President of this Temple whose congregation is mostly Bengali speaking. There is another Bangladesh Hindu Mandir in Elmhurst (New York, USA).

Hinduism, oldest and third largest religion of the world, has about one billion adherents.

Hamtramck, established in 1798, is known for its four-day long annual musical festival Hamtramck Blowout, in which reportedly over 200 bands participate. Its schoolchildren reportedly speak 26 native languages and 2.7 percent of its population is of Bangladeshi and 5.4 percent of Asian-Indian descent. Karen Majewski and William Cooper are Mayor and City Manager respectively. Notable people associated with Hamtramck include actress Gail Kobe, basketball player Rudolph Tomjanovich, Jr., musician Mitch Ryder, tennis player Jane Bartkowicz, and actors Tom Tyler and John Hodiak.
