Thimphu, July 24 (ANI): India's Home Minister P Chidambaram met his Pakistani counterpart Rehman Malik on Saturday on the sidelines of the fourth South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) interior ministers' conference in Thimphu, Bhutan.
Both warned terrorism posed the most significant "challenge" to security in South Asia.
Malik told reporters the meeting was "very good" and held in a "very cordial atmosphere," the Nation reports.
He said issues of mutual interest were discussed, without disclosing details.
There was no immediate comment from the Indian delegation attending the meeting, which came ahead of the India-Pakistan foreign minister-level peace talks set for this Tuesday in New Delhi.
ndia said that no country can escape its responsibility by blaming non-state actors for terrorist activities emanating from its soil.
Chidambaram, while addressing the conference, said: "Sometimes, I think that the distinction between state actors and non-state actors is misplaced and intended to misdirect our efforts to deal with terrorist groups at the very source."
Describing terrorism as the biggest existentialist challenge in South Asia, Chidambaram said the menace in the region can be best tackled through effective cooperation among the SAARC nations.
"We have no alternative but to deploy the best instruments and resources at our disposal in our fight against terrorism," he said. (ANI)
