London, July 22 (ANI): The feminine hygiene brand Summer's Eve, has been called 'racist' after it used the hands of women of different ethnicities to advertise their cleansing products.
The use of 'talking' hands of black, white and Latina women to represent female genitalia drew hundreds of negative comments online, with some arguing that the distinctive voice-overs adhere to racial stereotypes.
The commercials were made with the intention of promoting cleanliness, but for many women it's the image of Summer's Eve that needs a good scrub, the Daily Mail reports.
In one ad, a black hand tells women that using Summer's Eve products will help them be more desirable at night clubs.
The advert ends with the tagline 'Hail to the V'.
The Latino version carries a similar theme, but this time, the talking hand gets worked up over women wearing 'tacky' leopard-skin thongs and launches into a tirade in Spanish.
The white hand tells women 'you and me should BFFs (best friends forever)' before asking them to try Summer's Eve products.
The targeting of separate races by the marketing department at Summer's Eve was criticized by many of its viewers.
"This is the single most offensive thing I have ever seen. The 'Hispanic' one managed to be racist, sexist and vaguely religiously stereotypical, without coming right out and saying it, of course!' an ad viewer posted comment online.
"These commercials certainly adhere to racist stereotypes. Not pleased," wrote another viewer. (ANI)
