Malaysia has 'big plans' to promote Little India tourism

Kuala Lumpur, Thu, 21 Jul 2011 ANI

Kuala Lumpur, July 21 (ANI): The Malaysian tourism ministry has come up with new plans to draw more tourists to the iconic Little India located in Brickfields, that includes showcasing its own unique culture to the international tourism sector.

"We have a variety of products including distinctive food, shopping, religious and even traditional culture that should be promoted," the Star quoted Tourism minister Dr Ng Yen Yenshe, as saying.

The ministry will also make Little India a compulsory route for the Kuala Lumpur Hop-on-Hop-off city tour bus, she said.

"Although the company is a private entity, our ministry will discuss (with the company) to include Little India as one of the stops. I believe it won't be difficult to consult them on this matter," she added.

Yenshe said she would also discuss with the local Chinese tour association to come up with a special package to attract some 1.2 million tourists from China, Japan and Korea to visit Little India.

She also announced that RM 50,000 would be given to the Brickfields Business Community Society (BBCS) to participate in the Fabulous Food 1Malaysia Festival to promote Little India. (ANI)
