London, July 21(ANI): South African police have turned Shrien Dewani, the Brit-Indian millionaire who has been charged with masterminding his wife's murder during their honeymoon in South Africa last year, into a "trophy prisoner" for the country's most violent convicts, a London court has been told.
Dewani's lawyer Clare Montgomery told the Belmarsh Magistrates' Court that officers have put him in danger of violence with a series of smears, including suggestions he was homosexual, the Daily Express reports.
She claimed that the 31-year-old would be a target for prisoners as he was "young, good looking, and of good character".
Montgomery was giving her final submissions for Dewani's extradition hearing.
Dewani's 28-year-old wife, Anni, was shot dead after gunmen hijacked the couple's taxi while they were on their honeymoon in Cape Town in November last year.
South African police claim that the 31-year-old paid the men to kill Anni during the staged hijacking.
Dewani denies any wrongdoing. (ANI)
