London, July 19(ANI): Shrien Dewani, the Brit-Indian millionaire who has been charged with masterminding his wife's murder during their honeymoon in South Africa last year, may be sabotaging his own mental health, a London court has heard.
Dewani's lawyer Clare Montgomery had earlier argued that he was "simply unfit to stand trial" for extradition to South Africa.
However, the South African authorities' lawyer, Hugo Keith, asked if there was any evidence of "a deliberate decision to avoid getting better by refusing treatment".
Psychology expert Professor Michael Kopelman replied: "There may be some evidence of conscious manipulation."
Dewani, who has post-traumatic stress disorder, is said to have refused treatment sessions.
The Belmarsh Magistrates' Court heard that he might be over-exercising to keep levels of an enzyme high in his blood so he cannot take anti-depressants, the Daily Star reports.
The hearing continues.
Dewani's 28-year-old wife, Anni, was shot dead after gunmen hijacked the couple's taxi while they were on their honeymoon in Cape Town in November last year.
South African police claim that the 32-year-old paid the men to kill Anni during the staged hijacking.
