London, July 19 (ANI): Brazilian researchers have reported a rare case of a woman with a full-sized extra nipple on the sole of her foot, possibly the first of its kind.
"A 22-year-old woman sought medical care for a lesion in the plantar region of her left foot, a well-formed nipple surrounded by areola and hair," the Mirror quoted the researchers, as saying in a report.
"Microscopic examination of the dermis showed hair follicles, eccrine glands, and sebaceous glands.
"Fat tissue was noted at the base of the lesion. Clinical and histopathologic findings were consistent with the diagnosis of supernumerary breast tissue, also known as pseudomamma.
"To our knowledge, this is the first report of supernumerary breast tissue on the foot," they added.
The 22-year-old woman however admitted that despite having the unusual 2-inch wide growth all her life, she never felt any pain due to it.
Generally extra nipples are found along the milk lines, which run from the genitals to the armpits, they have been discovered on the back, thigh or even the face.
The case of the woman was first published in Dermatology Journal in 2006. (ANI)
