London, July 19(ANI): Shrien Dewani, the Brit-Indian millionaire who has been charged with masterminding his wife's murder during their honeymoon in South Africa last year, was ruled "too ill" to attend his extradition hearing in London yesterday.
According to the Daily Star, Dewani is said to have severe post-traumatic stress disorder.
The 31-year-old's lawyer Clare Montgomery argued that he was "simply unfit to stand trial".
Judge Howard Riddle, sitting at Belmarsh Magistrates' Court in London, "reluctantly" agreed to excuse him from the hearing.
Dewani was later taken back to a secure mental hospital where he is on bail.
Dewani's 28-year-old wife, Anni, was shot dead after gunmen hijacked the couple's taxi while they were on their honeymoon in Cape Town in November last year.
South African police claim that the 31-year-old paid the men to kill Anni during the staged hijacking.
Taxi driver Zola Tongo claimed in a plea bargain that Dewani offered him cash to arrange the hitmen.
Dewani and Tongo were ejected from the cab and Dewani was driven off and killed.
Dewani denies any wrongdoing. (ANI)
