Washington, July 18 (ANI): Though US President Barack Obama's approval ratings on the economy are slipping, he continues to garner consumer interest with his presidential merchandise surpassing that of any previous president.
The bounce Obama enjoyed in the polls after US troops killed Osama bin Laden has fallen to 46 percent in just a month.
But entrepreneurs who capitalize on the "Obama brand" say that his commercial appeal remains robust, reports the Politico.
Capitol Souvenir Company, a wholesale distributor that sells souvenirs to specialty stores across the country, has seen strong sales of its Obama merchandise since January 2009.
"We're finding with the Obama presidential merchandise that sales are pretty active in comparison to other presidents. I find it a little bit unusual that the popularity has still remained fairly high and hasn't dropped off a cliff," said Jay Goozh, whose family has operated Capsco for 85 years.
Other business owners echo his observation. Obama products account for 10 percent of sales at White House Gifts, a souvenir store.
CafePress.com, an online store where customers can design, sell and buy a wide range of merchandise, is currently selling about 570,000 pro-Obama and 144,000 anti-Obama products related to the presidential campaign.
Marketing director Marc Cowlin said Obama merchandise makes up 47 percent of all sales related to 2012. (ANI)
