Nevada (US), July 17 (ANI): The Hindus have commended Serbia for reported establishment of 'Inter-religious Council'.
According to reports, the council is set up under the Serbian Ministry of Religion in its capital Belgrade with a mission of affirming religious freedom. Currently, besides the Minister of Religion, it consists of representatives from Serbian Orthodox Church, Roman Catholic Church, Islam, and Judaism.
Esteemed Hindu statesman Rajan Zed, welcoming the formation of the Council, in a statement in Nevada (USA) on Saturday, said that it was a "step in the right direction" for Serbia.
Zed, who is president of Universal Society of Hinduism, stressed that all religions should work together for a just and peaceful world. Dialogue would bring us mutual enrichment, he added.
He, however, pointed out the need of Hindu representation on the Council.
Hinduism was the oldest and third largest religion of the world with a rich philosophical thought and considerable presence in Serbia and should have a voice in the Council, Zed argued.
Serbia, a landlocked country of Europe, is known for Novi Sad EXIT music festival, tranquil medieval monasteries, raspberries, energetic Belgrade, tennis player Novak Djokovic, painter Paja Jovanovic, etc. Serbian Orthodox Church has the largest number of adherents in the country.
