Kuala Lumpur, July 16 (ANI): Malaysian Indian Muslim Congress (Kimma) President Datuk Syed Ibrahim Ali has said the body would conduct its own census for the community to identify the number of Indian Muslims in the country, their level of education and low income groups.
The decision comes in the wake of Ibrahim Ali's claim that Indian Muslims were mistakenly identified as Malays in the national census causing the size of the community to be under-represented.
He said Kimma's census would be a part of the "Jom Daftar Yakin" programme under the National Islamic Development Foundation (Yakin), an NGO under Kimma.
"Once identified, Kimma will assist the under privileged obtain jobs or find additional sources of income to raise the average household income to above 3,000 ringgits," the Star quoted Ali, as saying.
He further said that the target of the census was to reduce the low- income group population to zero percent within the next three years.
The nationwide programme will begin tomorrow and is expected to be completed by the end of this year. (ANI)
