Islamabad, July 16 (ANI): Pakistan's Senate Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs has told the government that the control of Shamsi airbase in Balochistan should be taken over from the United States immediately.
The committee said that the airfield was being used by the US' Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) as a base for predator drone attacks on militants in Federally Administered Tribal Areas.
It also said that India could use the airfield in future to serve her interests, The Nation reports.
Pakistan Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani had recently said that the US was never given access to Shamsi airbase for carrying out drone attacks.
Gilani insisted that the US was given access to the base only for surveillance purposes by the previous government.
Earlier, American officials had said that the US planned to keep using the airstrip despite being asked to vacate it. (ANI)
