Islamabad, July 16(ANI): Around 10 billion dollars of US financial aid provided to Pakistan over the past 10 years for the losses incurred in the war against terror is missing in Pakistani official calculations, London-based independent research institute South Asian Strategic Stability Institute (SASSI) has said.
The comparative analysis done by the SASSI team indicates that US government has reimbursed 18.76 billion dollars to Pakistan, but Pakistan claims that it has been provided with only 8.64 billion dollars.
Out of the total amount, 1.63 billion dollars went to the Pakistani military whereas the government received 2.7 billion dollars.
SASSI Director General Dr Maria Sultan, however, raised a genuine question, saying that Pakistan had claimed 13.30 billion dollars from the US government. How can US provide more than the Pakistani claim? This money cannot be accounted and perhaps the US can best explain where was this money spent when Pakistan never asked for it," The News quoted Sultan, as saying.
The brief prepared against the background of the recent suspension of 800 million dollars US military aid to Pakistan was based on a comparative analysis of US Congressional reports and Defence authorization bills and Pakistani economic surveys and annual reports. (ANI)
