Islamabad, July 16 (ANI): Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari has stressed the need for translating Pakistan-Sri Lanka ties into economic terms and taking advantage of each other's economic expertise and opportunities.
Zardari after meeting Sri Lankan Foreign Minister Professor Gamini Lakshman Peiris, said Pakistan values its relations with Sri Lanka, which are based on mutual respect, shared civilizational heritage and shared perceptions on a host of issues.
Both sides discussed their bilateral relations, mutual co-operation with reference to trade and other related matters, the Daily Times reports.
They also discussed the progress on the proposed currency swap agreement for promoting and facilitating mutual trade by reducing pressure on the foreign exchange reserves of both sides.
Zardari said both sides could increase mutual volume trade by increasing the synergies of Pak-Sri Lanka economies and reinforcing the institutional framework for mutual co-operation.
In a separate meeting with Professor Peiris, Pakistan Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani also called for deeper and wide-ranging measures for further strengthening of the Pakistan-Sri Lanka ties.
He said both sides needed to forge a strong economic partnership to realise their potential in various areas. (ANI)
