Lahore, July 11(ANI): Pakistan Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani has said that his government is focused on the political and economic empowerment of women for harnessing a viable role for them in the society.
"The empowerment of women will establish their social status and bring about a change to facilitate the process of development in the country," The Daily Times quoted Gilani, as saying while presiding over a meeting of the Pakistan People's Party (PPP) women parliamentarians from Punjab Assembly.
Gilani also said that the elected women representatives have an important role in promoting and evaluating policies of the government as well as their party.
Regarding various government initiatives for women, the Prime Minister said that the women's parliamentary caucus in the National Assembly and the National Commission on the Status of Women have played a useful role in highlighting the issues concerning women in Pakistan.
He further assured that the government would extend support to the commission for the betterment of women. (ANI)
