Karachi, July 9 (ANI): Pakistan Interior Minister Rehman Malik has said that 89 people have been arrested on the suspicion of being involved in the ongoing bloodbath in Karachi.
Addressing a press conference in Karachi amid escalated violence, Malik said that out of those arrested, 12 suspects are Urdu-speaking, 19 are Pathan and three are Baloch.
He did not specify the ethnic background of the remaining suspects and said that the dead included very few politically- affiliated activists.
Malik said that intelligence has been stepped up three fold to monitor the Karachi situation and that separate areas have been designated to Frontier Corps, Rangers and police personnel.
"We want protection for every street of Karachi," The Express Tribune quoted Malik, as saying, adding that information received with the help of Google maps and satellite imaging has been helpful.
He urged the media to not sensationalize news and requested that they show more sensitivity to the situation.
" I request that the media not update the death toll like a cricket score - be a little sensitive", he said. (ANI)
