Kabul, July 9 (ANI): A private contracting company hired to provide security at the US Embassy in Afghanistan was reportedly forced to pay a 7.5million dollar fine to 'resolve allegations' its guards engaged in sexual hazing and visited brothels in Kabul.
ArmorGroup North America Inc (AGNA) and its affiliates paid the fee amid accusations that false claims had been submitted for payment on State Department contracts.
The State Department said that AGNA's management knew about the guards' conduct and that the company misrepresented the work experience of 38 guards at the embassy, the Daily Mail reports.
"The settlement resolves US claims that in 2007 and 2008, AGNA guards violated the Trafficking Victims Protection Act (TVPA) by visiting brothels in Kabul, and that AGNA's management knew about the guards' activities," said a statement by the Justice Department.
"Americans deserve to know that their tax dollars are being spent wisely and consistent with our values. Our office has targeted government contractors who fail to meet their obligations to the American people," it added.
The lawsuit against AGNA was filed by the company's former Director of Operations, James Gordon. (ANI)
