Tripoli, July 5 (ANI): The Libyan government has accused NATO of undermining secret negotiations with senior rebels aimed at finding a peaceful solution to the four-month conflict.
Officials in Tripoli have claimed that informal talks have taken place in a number of foreign states, including Italy and Norway, for the past two months, but the rebels have denied that such negotiations have taken place.
Libya's Deputy Foreign Minister Khaled Kaim has said that progress was made "in some areas" to negotiate with the rebels, but they were marred by unspecified NATO obstructions.
"The only part we have to blame here is the NATO. Some member states of NATO don't support talks between the government and the rebels. That is the reason why there has been come delay in the outcome of the talks," The Telegraph quoted him, as saying.
Despite the denial of National Transitional Council, the rebels' de-facto government in Benghazi, that any negotiations are taking place, the Libyan government insisted that talks were only being held with individuals in the Council, not the whole body. (ANI)
