Washington, July 4(ANI): National Security Advisor in the Obama Administration, Tom Donilon, has said that the United States' relationship with Pakistan is complicated, and there are going to be frustrations and disagreements.
He also said that Washington is holding negotiations with Islamabad to sort out issues stemming from the May 2 Abbottabad operation to kill Al-Qaeda chief Osama bin Laden.
"The United States and Pakistan have a complicated relationship and there are going to be frustrations and disagreements. We remain engaged with Pakistan for a number of very important reasons related to our national security, and I think, ultimately their security," The Daily Times quoted Donilon, as saying.
The National Security Advisor further said that Pakistan remains a "very important counter-terrorism partner" for the US and reiterated that the Pakistani political, military and intelligence leadership had no foreknowledge that bin Laden was hiding in Abbottabad.
The May 2 US secret military operation has caused serious strains in the US-Pakistan bilateral relationship, considered by experts as key to a successful outcome in Afghanistan. (ANI)
