Strauss-Kahn rape accuser maid facing perjury charge

New York, July 3 (ANI): The New York hotel maid, who accused former International Monetary Fund (IMF) chief Dominique Strauss-Kahn of rape, is now facing a perjury charge and could even be deported from America.

It has been revealed that the 32-year-old woman has admitted lying to gain asylum in the US and also cheating on her tax forms, express.co.uk reports.

Although experts said that both "crimes" are felonies and could result in jail sentences, it is believed that her most immediate problem, if the case is dropped, would be facing a perjury charge after prosecutors said she lied to the grand jury that indicted Strauss-Kahn on rape charges.

Earlier, in her application for asylum to the U.S. for herself and her daughter in 2004, she had claimed that the home she shared with her husband in Guinea was burned down by soldiers for the country's regime. He was then supposedly put in jail and tortured where he died of his injuries.

But later she admitted that this was a lie.

She had also claimed that she was gang raped by soldiers in Guinea to help her asylum application and cried when recounting this to prosecutors, but later admitted that even this was a made up story.

It is expected that she could even be deported to her native Guinea, in West Africa, for lying on her immigration form and filing a fraudulent tax return.

"This woman has admitted two very serious crimes, lying to immigration and to the IRS. It's easy to see why the case is falling apart as she would not stand up as a credible witness," a New York prosecutor has said.

Strauss-Kahn was released yesterday from his house arrest without bail after prosecutors admitted that there were 'serious credibility issues' with his accuser, who had alleged that the former tried to rape her in May at the Manhattan hotel.

"It's clear that the strength of this case has been affected by substantial credibility issues with the witness," Assistant District Attorney Joan Illuzzi-Orbon told the court. (ANI)
