Sydney, July 3 (ANI): An Indian-origin neurosurgeon in Australia, who left a young prostitute dead in his bed for almost two days, said that he realized his drug and sex addiction was "spiraling out of control".
The Star quoted Suresh Nair, 43, as telling Downing Centre District Court in Sydney that "he made a big mistake and the whole thing snowballed completely out of control".
"There was a part of me that recognized things were out of control but there was another part of me that chose to ignore that rational part of my mind," he said.
Another prostitute, Suellen Domingues-Zaupa, 23, died in the same circumstances nine months later in November 2009.
"If I had handled things differently and been honest with myself, I feel very strongly that nothing would have happened with Suellen," said Nair, who had earlier pleaded guilty to the manslaughter of Domingues-Zaupa.
Nair, who has been suspended by the New South Wales Medical Board, is awaiting deregistration after pleading guilty to the charges and also faces deportation to Malaysia as he is not an Australian citizen despite migrating in 1980 at the age of 11.
Nair was recently assaulted by four inmates in Sydney's Silverwater jail, which resulted in the loss of some vision. (ANI)
