Washington, July (ANI): US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has said that Muammar Gaddafi's warning to attack Europe will not deter NATO from carrying out its military action in Libya.
Speaking from an unknown location in a telephone message played to thousands of supporters gathered in the main square of the capital Tripoli, Gaddafi had warned yesterday that the Libyans could take revenge for NATO bombings, saying: "These people (the Libyans) are able to one day take this battle ... to Europe, to target your homes, offices, families, which would become legitimate military targets, like you have targeted our homes."
Clinton brushed aside the dictator's warning, and instead insisted that he should 'step down from power'.
"Instead of issuing threats, he should be putting the wellbeing and interests of his own people first. He should step down from power," The Guardian quoted Clinton, as saying.
Gaddafi's warning did not have much impact on the Western coalition forces, with reports saying that British Apache helicopters targeted a military base being used by Gaddafi's forces to terrorise local people.
NATO declared that it has destroyed over 50 military targets in the west of Libya this week.
Clinton said the NATO mission to protect Libyan civilians was on track, with pressure mounting on Gaddafi to step down.
"The rebels are gaining strength and momentum. We need to see this through," she added. (ANI)
