Colombo, July 2(ANI): The Sri Lanka government on Saturday released a video allegedly taken during the final stages of the civil war in 2009 to counter a similar video which led to calls for a war crimes investigation in the island country.
The video shows armed men in military attire shooting a group of Tamil separatists who had been stripped, bound and gagged.
The armed men are seen speaking in Tamil.
A similar video recently showed the same sequence, but the armed men spoke in Sinhalese language, which is used by the Sri Lankan military.
"We got this original video and we gave it to a local television station to air. It shows the armed men speaking in Tamil and not Sinhalese. So that shows that the video aired in Britain was a fake," Xinhua quoted a Sri Lankan military spokesman, as saying.
The Channel 4 documentary, titled "Sri Lanka's killing fields", had led to calls for an international independent investigation in Sri Lanka over alleged war crimes being committed during the final stages of the 30-year conflict. (ANI)
