Johannesburg, June 8 (ANI): The historic Nelson Mandela Building in Johannesburg's Central Business District, where the former president served his legal articles, is to be auctioned on June 23.

According to News24, Mandela served as an article clerk at the law firm Witkin, Sidelsky and Eidelman in 1942, which was in the building. In the 1940s, it was called the Old Mutual building.

The 11-storey, 15 102m building on the corner of Harrison and Commissioner Streets was renamed after its famous tenant.

It is owned by CIDA City Campus, which provides higher education for socioeconomic development.

The building was donated to CIDA by First National Bank in 2006 as part of the bank's corporate social responsibility project. Its anchor tenant, the Education Alive School, has a lease until 2015.
