Benapole (Bangladesh), June 2(ANI): A Bangladeshi cattle trader was shot dead by the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) personnel at the Dhaniakhali checkpoint, as the border patrol agency continues to pursue a shoot-on-sight strategy.

The deceased has been identified as Abdul Alim, 33, son of Abdul Malek of Harinapota village in Sharsha Upazila.

Assistant sub-inspector Sirajul Islam of the Benapole port station said BSF personnel deployed at the Sutia border in India opened fire on Bangladeshi cattle traders who were returning from India in the early hours of Wednesday.

"Alim fell dead on the spot in the shooting, but his associates managed to flee," a local source said.

Later, the BSF team took Alim's body to the Sutia camp.

The body is being kept at the Bongaon Police Station in West Bengal.

Meanwhile, Nayek Abdul Bari of 22 BGB battalion said that Bangladeshi border guards have sent a protest letter to the BSF asking them to return the body through a flag meeting.

"The BSF has agreed to hold the flag meeting," he said. (ANI)
