Dubai, Mar.24 (ANI): An Indian yoga group has lodged a complaint that they were harassed by Dubai's Al Nahda Pond park security officials while practicing yoga.
"We're doing a non-commercial activity here and we're allowed to do yoga in other parts of Dubai. I don't understand why we're being told not to do it in this park," said Dr. V. Dayananda, who is a Dubai-based orthopedic surgeon
"There's nothing about meditation and breathing exercises that threaten or disturb people inside the park. We just leave when we're told to leave, but I don't understand it," said Dr Prashar Madhu, an ayurvedic practitioner.
A Dubai Municipality officer, who is a regular at the Al Nahda yoga group, has confirmed the incident.
"The guards have been told not to allow anyone to do group yoga. They have told us that the park is only for families. We have had to wrap up the yoga sessions within an hour," Gulf News quoted municipality official, as saying.
Nearly 70 people join the evening yoga group in the park. The group members said that this move by park authorities has puzzled them since they are able to have yoga sessions more freely near the Dubai Municipality building.
