Lahore, Mar 22(ANI): The Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q)- an opposition party in Pakistan's Punjab Assembly - has demanded an open debate on the issue of the release of double murder-accused CIA contractor Raymond Davis.
During the Punjab Assembly (PA) session on Monday, opposition members- especially those hailing from the PML-Q- kept chanting slogans of "shame-shame" and "friends of America are traitors" against the PML-N-led Punjab government for its alleged involvement in ensuring Davis' release.
However, MPAs from the major opposition party in the province, the Pakistan People's Party (PPP), remained silent over the issue, the Daily Times reported.
The Davis issue surfaced in the PA session when Speaker Rana Muhammad Iqbal Khan sent some members to bring back MPA Ali Haider Noor Khan Niazi, who had announced to boycott the proceedings in protest against Davis' release.
PML-Q-backed MPAs remained the most vocal critics as they blamed the PML-N led government for its alleged role in the release of the US national and also for facilitating him in the prison during his detention.
MPA Samina Khawar Hayat demanded the chair to hold an open discussion on the issue to unearth those behind Davis' release, adding that the discussion was imperative as the masses were of the view that the PML-N was behind the American's fleeing from the country.
Chaudhry Zaheeruddin, parliamentary leader of the PML-Q in the House, said on a point of order that there was a lingering question over the presence of all the heirs of the January 27 shootout victims and their lawyer's absence in the court on the day Davis was released.
MPAs Amna Ulfat and Seemal Kamran said that the treasury benches themselves had sent Davis back to the US, and were now protesting against the same act. (ANI)
