Islamabad, Mar 18 (ANI): The Assembly in Pakistan's Punjab Province has unanimously passed a resolution condemning US drone attacks in the country's northwestern tribal areas.
The resolution, which was tabled by Pakistan Muslim League - Nawaz's MPA Begum Khwaja Naseem, has said that US drone attacks in the tribal areas were a breach of national sovereignty, The Dawn reports.
Condemning Thursday's drone attack that killed at least 40 civilians, the resolution demanded the government to adopt a clear stance on such attacks.
The House, subsequently, adopted the resolution unanimously.
Pakistan had earlier asked the United States to apologise and give an explanation over carrying out drone attacks in the country's tribal region.
"The government of Pakistan strongly condemns the drone strike which has resulted in a large number of casualties," Pakistan Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Tehmina Janjua said in a statement.
"Foreign Secretary Salman Bashir conveyed this strong condemnation to US ambassador Cameron Munter and has demanded an apology and explanation. This is not only unacceptable but also a flagrant violation of all humanitarian rules and norms," she added.
Pakistan's Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani also strongly condemned the drone attack, saying: "It will only strengthen the hands of radical and extremist elements," while army chief General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani branded it as "intolerable and unjustified". (ANI)
