India to take up detention of fishermen with Pakistan

New Delhi , Wed, 16 Mar 2011 ANI

New Delhi, Mar 16 (ANI): India is expected to raise the issue of detention of fishermen

in Pakistani jails during the Home Secretary-level talks between the two nations beginning on March 28.

External Affairs Minister S M Krishna informed the Lok Sabha in a written today that

India has released 20 Pakistani fishermen this year, but Pakistan has not reciprocated the gesture as 243 Indian fishermen are still lodged in Pakistani jails.

Scores of Indian and Pakistani fishermen are languishing in the jails of the neighbouring countries for intentional or unintentional violation of territorial waters.

Progress in 26/11 trial, cross border movement of terrorists and the menace of fake Indian currency notes will be high on the agenda during the Home Secretary-level talks between the two nations to be held here on March 28-29. (ANI)
