New Delhi, Mar 14 (ANI): Condemning last week's murder of a female Indian student in Australia, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Rajiv Pratap Rudy on Monday said the incident has created a sense of insecurity among Indians staying in that country, and added that the government ought to take a firm action in this regard.
"It is a sad state of affairs. We had expected the things to settle down. But again this incident is creating a sense of insecurity among millions of Indians staying in Australia. It is a matter of great concern. And it is an issue, which the (Foreign) Minister and the government should take up at the highest level," Rudy told reporters here.
"And seeing the intensity and the severeness of the problem, we also expect the government to come forth with a statement because it is a matter of life and dignity of Indians and Indian students studying in Australia," he added.
External Affairs Minister S M Krishna described the incident as unfortunate, and said the government is closely monitoring the case to ensure that justice is done.
"This is a very very unfortunate incident, which has been reported. And I have asked... we are getting a report from our ambassador. We are closely following it up... monitoring it... and we will see that justice is done," Krishna told reporters outside Parliament.
The body of Tosha Thakkar, who was studying accounting at the Sydney College of Business and IT, was found stuffed inside a suitcase near a canal in Sydney last week.
