Karachi, Mar 14(ANI): The death toll in the ongoing wave of violence in Karachi since Thursday has mounted to thirty as nine more people fell prey to target killings in the metropolis on Sunday.
Two activists of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) and one Awami National Party (ANP) worker were among the nine persons killed on Sunday, the Daily Times reports.
An activist of the Jeay Sindh Qaumi Mahaz (JSQM) also fell prey to the target killings.
Police officials said the culprits targeted him when he was on his way to home in Old Haji Camp area after offering Fajr prayers, adding that the deceased was wanted in several cases of crime and drugs.
Also, at least five people were injured in separate incidents of firing in Sachal police station limits.
Heavy contingents of police, which have been deployed in the city in the wake of the target killings, failed to control violence across the city.
53 people have been killed in target killings this month alone, including 13 workers of MQM, two of ANP, one of JSQM and one of Pakistan People's Party (PPP). (ANI)
