Washington, Mar.13 (ANI): UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has called for "utmost restraint" and "a genuine and broad-based dialogue" in Yemen to avoid further deterioration of situation in the Middle East.
According to a statement issued by his spokesman, Ban said that he is concerned about the deteriorating situation in Yemen.
He further condemned the excessive use of force by the government's security forces against peaceful demonstrators in Sana'a on March 12, which has led to the death of several people.
According to the Xinhua, the statement said: "The secretary-general calls for utmost restraint."
"He urges the government and opposition groups to reach an understanding on entering into a genuine and broad-based dialogue leading to concrete results so as to avert a further deterioration of the situation", said the statement.
It added that the secretary-general wants Yemen government to uphold international human rights standards and also to investigate allegations of extra judicial killings and human rights violations. (ANI)
