Colombo, Mar.13 (ANI): Sri Lanka's Prime Minister DM Jayaratne has retracted his claim that the Tamil Tiger rebels were being trained in camps in India.
He said that his allegation was based on incorrect information, The BBC reports.
Jayaratne's speech to parliament drew a strong response from the Indian government as he said that an unknown number of fighters based at three clandestine training centres were operated by the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) in Tamil Nadu.
He said his government had intelligence reports, which stated that one of the camps was giving training in how to assassinate VIPs.
He said: "Their next target is to create small-scale attacks", "The entire nation must be ready to face this threat."
However, India's Ministry of External Affairs spokesman rebuffed Jayaratne's remarks, and said that Delhi "categorically" denied the existence of such camps and adding that the Colombo government had not raised such an issue diplomatically.
He said: "Such a reference is indeed unfortunate and we urge the government of Sri Lanka to desist from reacting to speculative and uncorroborated reports."
Jayaratne has now said that accounts of the supposed camps were "mentioned in two newspaper reports".
He said: "There appears to be false information in these reports" (ANI)

Prime Minister DM Jayaratne and the Central gouvernment with spinless Prime Minister according to the latest fals statements of this man jayaratne. Very recently the US Senat passed a resolution demanding the Sri Lankan gouvernment to face all criminel charges on human rights abuse and wanted to probe on thousands of innocent tamil civil killed by Sri Lankan arm forces. But there is no any such demand from the Indian gouvernment fearing that Sri Lanka would allow china to have army bases in Trincomalee.The Indian gouvernment also cowardly offered millions of dollars worth of economic aide and financial aides to celebrate army victory on LTTE. Juste for the death of one man Rajaiv Gandhi the whole Tamil population are being ignored and disliked by the central gouvernment of India. Now this man jayaratne, insiste that are training camps for LTTE or Tamils in India just to cover up the latest demands of United states gouvernment. Now Sri Lanka is becoming little by little like Libiya. The tamil Nadu gouvernment should demand the Indian spinless Prime Minister to stop giving further economic aides to Sri Lanka. even if China is allowed to have any Naval or Army bases in Sri Lanka, one Automic bomb from India will be quiet enough to erase this little Island now becoming anti-India.
