Beijing, Mar.11 (ANI): Wu Bangguo, Chairman of China's National People's Congress (NPC) Standing Committee, said that China will never adopt a multiparty system or other Western-style political models that can challenge the Communist party's powerful grip over the country.
As he delivered the work report of the standing committee the NPC, to almost 3000 people gathered in the Great Hall off the People, Wu said: "On the basis of China's conditions, we've made a solemn declaration that we'll not employ a system of multiple parties holding office in rotation."
" The establishment of a socialist law system, with Chinese characteristics, institutionally and legally ensured that the country stays on the right path," he added.
Wu said: " If we waver (from the correct political orientation and major issues of principle, such as the fundamental system of the State), the achievements gained thus far in development will be lost and it is possible the country could sink into the abyss of internal disorder."
He also ruled out the possibility of adopting a bicameral system, separating the legislative, executive and judicial powers, adding that privatization was not under consideration, China Daily reports.
NPC deputies approved of Wu's remarks.
Han Yuchen, a deputy from Handan (Hebei), said: " China's existing political system is based on our own conditions and can thus better ensure stability."
"Such a system shows its merits particularly when the country faces emergencies and disasters, such as the 8.0-magnitude earthquake in Sichuan in 2008," he added.
Han said that the Chinese people had benefited from social and economic developments over the past decades thanks to the stable political system.
Wang Dongzhou, a deputy from Chengdu (Sichuan), said " The establishment of a socialist law system has laid the foundation for the rule of law in China and institutionally ensures the right direction for the country," addind that they must follow it to prevent any disorder. (ANI)
