Monrovia (Liberia), Mar. 1 (ANI): The Liberian Foreign Ministry has said there is no record of Upjit Singh Sachdeva, India's Honorary Consul General in Liberia, of seeking or being granted political asylum by its government.
It described media reports and documents being circulated in India confirming Sachdeva's move to seek asylum as fake and forged.
It said that Liberia's Bureau of Immigration and Naturalization has issued a statement that says that the document dated March 3, 1997, which is in circulation in India is fraudulent.
The Liberian foreign ministry said that Sachdeva entered the country in 1987, and was granted a permit of residence like thousands of other businessmen, and added that he has fulfilled all criteria required for residents.
The Liberian Foreign Ministry described Sachdeva's service as India's Consul General as impeccable and that he continued to contribute to the furtherance of Indo-Liberian ties. (ANI)
