Yassin brushes aside former US envoy's 'Malaysia tolerated ethnic factionalism' views

Kuala Lumpur , Fri, 11 Feb 2011 ANI

Kuala Lumpur, Feb 11 (ANI): Malaysian Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin has brushed off former US Ambassador John Malott John Malott's criticism that Kuala Lumpur had tolerated ethnic factionalism, saying his comments do not carry any weightage.

"These are just his personal opinions and the media shouldn't make a fuss. His comments don't carry any weight because he holds no position now," The Star quoted Yassin, as saying.

"I don't even know where he is now," he added.

In a recent article in the Asian Wall Street Journal, Malott had accused the Malaysian government of "tolerating and, in some cases, provoking ethnic factionalism through words and actions". (ANI)
