PTI wants Malik tried for treason for lying about murder-accused US official's status

Islamabad, Sat, 05 Feb 2011 ANI

Islamabad, Feb 5(ANI): Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) has urged the judiciary to take serious notice of the "irresponsible" remarks of Interior Minister Rehman Malik on a sub judicial matter of double murder-accused US official Raymond Davis.

PTI Information Secretary Sulaiman Malik said the Interior Minister had tried to defend "his American masters" by lying to the nation that Davis had a diplomatic passport.

The local media has already shown the scanned copy of Davis' non-diplomatic passport, he added.

He said Malik should be tried for treason as he lied to the nation about Davis' passport, the presence of Blackwater in Pakistan and other crucial matters of national security.

He maintained that the Interior Minister should let the court make a final decision in this regard, as the case was already in the court. The nation believed in the independent judiciary of Pakistan and justice would surely be delivered, he added.

Sulaiman observed that the contradictory statements of Davis and the US Embassy in Islamabad had already exposed their lies, and said the Pakistan government tried to defend the American while the foreign media was criticising the US and Davis for the brutal murders.

"This is a classic case of being more loyal than the king," The Nation quoted Sulaiman, as saying.

He said Rehman Malik insisted that the normal procedure was followed in Davis' case, which obviously was another attempt to protect the 'murderer'.

"How can our country be safe for the citizens with our government protecting murderers and mercenaries and refusing to take a stand against drone attacks and cold-blooded murder in broad daylight?" he questioned. (ANI)
