Lahore HC moved for acquiring complete details of foreign nationals in Pakistan

Lahore, Fri, 04 Feb 2011 ANI

Lahore, Feb 4(ANI): The Lahore High Court has asked the federal and provincial governments of Pakistan to reply to a petition seeking the complete details of the Americans and other foreigners living in the country.

Local lawyer Noshab A Khan moved the LHC against the backdrop of the killing of two young Pakistanis by a US citizen Raymond Davis on January 27, The Nation reported.

He submitted that a lack of correct information about the accused US national was causing immense problems to the public and himself too, who wanted to know his actual name and the mission on which he was in Lahore when he gunned down the two Pakistanis.

He requested the court to direct the Interior Ministry and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to provide all necessary information to the Punjab Home Secretary about the foreigners in the province, their duties and functions, whereabouts, movements and designs.

He further pleaded that the Punjab Government also be directed to take all necessary measures to safeguard the precious lives and properties of the citizens, especially against foreigners.

The Lahore High Court directed the Deputy Attorney General and the Assistant Advocate General to file a reply to the petition within three weeks.

Meanwhile, another local lawyer moved a petition in the LHC, calling for action against the double murder-accused US national for allegedly seeking a visa on a fake name and travelling to Pakistan on its basis.

Moreover, a petition has been filed in the Lahore High Court against the alleged 'special treatment' being meted out to Davis by the police holding his custody at present.

The petitioner requested the court to direct the prosecution to act strictly in accordance with the law, and treat the US official like any other murder-accused. (ANI)
